Summary

Physics is not a separate subject. It is the same universal kernel with tests restricted to physically realizable experiments and time interpreted as physical irreversibility. All physical laws are invariants of which tests are feasible, which records exist, how truth is closed, how costs accumulate, and how gauge is removed.


The Single Unifying Claim

Physics = the universal kernel with tests restricted to physically realizable experiments and irreversibility interpreted as stable records in matter.

All physical laws emerge as forced invariants of this structure.


What Gets Derived (Overview)

From the kernel foundations, the following physical theories are forced:

Classical Mechanics

When tests commute (can be jointly refined), the event algebra is commutative. States become probability measures. Reversible evolution (zero irreversibility) gives deterministic dynamics.

Thermodynamics

Entropy is the count of distinguishable alternatives. The second law is forced by irreversible recording — the arrow of time is monotone ledger cost. Temperature is the exchange rate between energy cost and entropy loss.

Quantum Mechanics

When tests don't commute (order matters), the algebra is noncommutative. Positivity (probability cannot be negative) plus closure forces Hilbert space structure via standard reconstruction theorems. Measurement "collapse" is irreversible record formation.

Quantum Field Theory

Locality constraints organize observables by spatial regions. Microcausality (spacelike-separated tests commute) plus symmetry gives the algebraic structure of QFT. Fields are coordinate charts; the invariant object is the net of local algebras.

Renormalization

Feasibility shrink means higher-resolution tests become infeasible. This forces coarse-graining maps. Fixed points of coarse-graining are universality classes — the "laws" that survive at accessible scales.

Geometry and General Relativity

Distance emerges from the cost of distinguishing. Curvature is the obstruction to commuting local operations (holonomy). Diffeomorphism invariance plus locality plus minimal derivatives gives Einstein's equations.

Black Hole Entropy

Horizons are causal boundaries. Entropy measures inaccessible distinguishability. For diffeomorphism-invariant theories, this is a Noether charge giving the area law.

Cosmology

The CMB power spectrum is the unique rotational invariant of sky data. Inflation provides the minimal mechanism for scale-invariant coherent initial conditions.

Dark Energy

Lorentz/diffeomorphism invariance forces vacuum equation of state w = -1. The cosmological constant value is a boundary condition unless further derived.


Local Structure Within Global Closure

The universe globally converges toward thermal equilibrium, yet local structure (stars, life, intelligence) forms and persists.

Resolution: Local structure is funded by exporting entropy to the environment. The global ledger remains monotone while local distinguishability temporarily increases through boundary flows.

This explains how complexity increases locally while the universe globally increases entropy.


Physics Is "Complete" in This Sense

For any physical claim:

  1. Encode as realizable experiment(s)
  2. Record outcomes
  3. Close to truth partition
  4. Either the claim becomes decided, or it remains a frontier with the minimal missing experiment

There is no "vague unknown." Unknown is always: surviving alternatives + next experiment + resource gap.
